Dr. Pedzisai Makoni | Drug Delivery | Best Researcher Award
Dr. Pedzisai Makoni | Drug Delivery | Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University | South Africa
Dr Pedzisai Makoni is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, combining extensive academic, industrial, and research expertise in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical sciences. Dr Pedzisai Makoni holds a PhD in Pharmaceutics, a Master of Science in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics), a Bachelor of Pharmacy, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary foundation in pharmaceutical formulation, drug delivery, and enterprise-related management. Professionally, Dr Pedzisai Makoni has over a decade of progressive experience spanning industrial bioprocessing, academic teaching, and research supervision. He is also an external expert evaluator for the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) in the Pharmaceutical and Analytical Committee, contributing regulatory insight and expert evaluation in pharmaceutical product assessment. His research interests focus on the development of novel dosage forms for targeted delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients, with particular emphasis on lipidic nanocarriers such as solid lipid nanoparticles and nanostructured lipid carriers. Dr Pedzisai Makoni’s research has explored formulation and evaluation of lipid nanocarriers for antiretroviral drugs, including efavirenz, aimed at reducing psychiatric effects in patients on HAART, as well as lipid nanocarriers for antibiotics such as clarithromycin for the treatment of non-tuberculous bacterial keratitis, demonstrating innovative approaches to improving drug solubility, bioavailability, and therapeutic efficacy. Dr Pedzisai Makoni possesses strong research skills in pharmaceutical formulation, nanocarrier design, drug delivery systems, analytical characterization, biopharmaceutical assessment, and regulatory compliance, alongside practical experience in aseptic industrial bioprocessing and medicines registration protocols.
