Currently serving as a Principal Research Officer at the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI-NARO) in Uganda, Dr. Okello has played a pivotal role in developing strategic research programs, securing grants, and advancing environmental research, including collaborations on novel greenhouse gas monitoring technologies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Tom Walingo is an Associate Professor and the Academic Leader for Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He has been serving as the academic leader since 2019, overseeing 23 academics and more than 400 students. His responsibilities include managing and administering academic programs, staff, and infrastructure, ensuring the smooth delivery of educational services. Under his leadership, all three programs in his discipline achieved full accreditation from the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), gaining international recognition through the Washington Accord.Since 2018, Professor Walingo has been trained and certified as an ECSA accreditation specialist, participating as a team member, team leader, and deputy visit leader for accreditation visits to various universities including UCT, Witwatersrand, North West University, TUT, Walter Sisulu, and UNISA. He has also evaluated educational qualifications and assessed potential candidates for professional registration as engineers.
